Many schools across the world might not be able to get authors they like to come in person – due to distance, cost or time. Video Visits allow children to connect with authors regardless of the distance and with no travel costs.

Once the technical link is established (I would recommend this is tested ahead of time) and the students are sitting facing the camera, the session would begin with a quick intro by Chitra.

Then it would be followed by a workshop or reading or talk, ending with a Q&A. Just like when Chitra visits a school, sessions will be different for different year groups and ages.

You can buy Chitra’s books from any bookshop in the UK or US. If you bought books ahead of a video visit session, Chitra will be happy to send you signed bookplates. Chitra can also arrange signed books to be sent to you through her local independent bookstore and the cost of freight will be added to the invoice.

A video visit is similar to an assembly session or a full school visit, depending on the school’s choice, minus the travel. The fees are usually comparable with a regular school visit less travel expenses (especially if the school is based in a different country). However in 2020, Chitra is offering discounts to schools across the world.

Schools can opt for

• A half-day author visit – video link for 2 sessions, with individual classes.
• A full-day author visit – video link for 4 sessions, with individual classes.

The video-links can also be substituted for year-group specific pre-recorded video content that teachers can play in classrooms especially for a writing workshop.
