Settings are not mere background to your story.  They can help you

  • define characters,
  • setup and payoff plot,
  • create conflict and
  • add texture to your stories.

Your writing task is:

Pick a place from the list below. Put two (or more) of  your characters in this setting. These characters must help us to see this setting using dialogue. Avoid exposition and reveal conflict. Remember to make the reader experience the setting using all our senses – see, feel, smell, hear, taste (all using dialogue).
