#Write30 – It’s a Numbers Game

  • Write a scene where numbers feature in a big way. The scene can have as many characters you wish.
  • The numbers can be used in any way – like a list or as a monetary value or years / days / age, weight or height or in comparison.
  • Think lucky numbers vs unlucky ones
  • Think lucky dates
  • Think words for numbers – dozen for 12, decade for 10 years – how can you play with that?
  • You can write a poem too! Either a stand-alone or related to your scene.

Here are some example scenes:

  • A character is making a list of things using numbers
  • A character is accused of stealing a certain amount of money
  • When a big number of people turn up for a party
  • How many days since someone has written to the character?
  • Does the character have a special date or number in their past and is there a backstory that foreshadows the plot?
  • Is there a cultural or political significance to a number or a date?
  • Is it the prison id of a character or someone in their past?
