Imagine your character…

  • As a child responding to parental authority. If they are already a child, then imagine them as an adult reacting to laws of their land.
  • Facing their first grieving moment – it could be loss of a teddy or a pet or worse.
  • Wants to pretend to be someone else. What lies do they tell about themselves to assume a fake identity.
  • Meeting someone more intelligent than them. (or vice versa).

Write…A scene in which at least one of the imagined scenes take place.

  • It can be a short story, flash fiction or just a standalone scene.
  • It can be fully exposition or in dialogue.
  • It can be in any POV – even someone else talking about your character.
  • It can be in any tense. Try a tense you don’t normally write in.
  • Add as many additional characters you need to show the scenario.
